Techniques For Stress Management

WHAT TECHNIQUES CAN BE FOLLOWED
FOR STRESS MANAGEMENT

Stress management is crucial in today's competitive world, where mental stress is a
state of worry and tension caused by difficult situations. Parents expect their children to
excel, pitting them against each other, leading to children being alone and lacking
opportunities for open communication. This can cause stress, anxiety, and depression in children.

The Indian schooling system is designed to rate students based on their academic
performance, neglecting their progress and focusing on memorizing lessons. This approach leaves little time for children to pursue their interests or creativity. The highly competitive education system in India encourages students to enter premium institutions like IITs and IIMs, leading to increased stress levels. Two studies have been conducted on the stress levels of Indian students, revealing distressing facts.

One study, "Academic stress, Parental pressure, Anxiety and Mental health among Indian high school students," found academic stress as the primary reason, followed by parental pressure and exam anxiety. Another study, "Estimating the prevalence of stress

among Indian students during the COVID-19 pandemic: A cross-sectional study from India," aimed to understand the stress levels of Indian students during the COVID-19 lockdown and found that females were more stressed than males due to life-altering events.

Stress is a general term applied to various psychologic and physiological pressures experienced by people throughout their lives. Academic stress is caused by heavy workload, subject fear, exam anxiety, and parent expectations, while institutional stress includes poor management skills, discrimination, abuse, and feeling loneliness. Techniques to bust stress include meditation, yoga, walking, avoiding multitasking, disconnecting from technology, spending time with pets, sleep, music therapy, a healthy diet, and deep breathing.

To address the mental health issues of students, schools should establish mental wellness committees, formulate profound policies, and act as sources of confidence for students. These committees should not be constituted for name sake but should formulate profound policies to guide students. Additionally, schools should act as silent whisperers, addressing students' mistakes quietly to prevent stress and promote a healthy environment for both teachers and students.

Why Human Values are important?

“Human beings are most wonderful creature of the world” – by Rajeev Ranjan.

Our values are important because they help us to grow and develop. They help us to create the future we want to experience. Every individual and every organization is involved in making
hundreds of decisions every day.

Universal human values play an important role in the life of humans at various stages including their homes, education and career. They help build a positive character with traits such as compassion, respect, kindness and humility. They can make students distinguish between right and wrong or good or bad.

For students, school is a root with a wonderful opportunity to connect with diverse members of our school community and beyond, listen to their personal stories, communicate with them, build relationships, explore and learn.. As librarians we are very familiar with the phrase ‘ You can’t judge a book by it’s cover ‘ It is what’s on the inside that is fascinating!

A good teacher’s success lies in making a student, a good citizen of the world and in enriching his knowledge in all aspects to become a good human being. We are facilitators for our kids. We nurture our kids in right direction. Our sole purpose is to nurture them, train them and equip them with different human values “No ridiculous fears, no debilitating anger”. We are educators, We make a big difference.

Human values are more important to contribute better human to the society.
